Corn group schedules district meetings
Changes in the organization's structure will top the agenda, new president says
Colorado corn growers can learn about the restructuring of Colorado Corn’s market and research arm in a series of district meetings next week.
Colorado Corn Administrative Committee’s newly-elected president, Rod Hahn, said he plans to talk about the recent restructuring during the six meetings planned for eastern Colorado. The Sterling meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Holiday Inn Express on East Chestnut Street. Other meetings are scheduled for:
• Dec. 5, 11:30 a.m., Kenny’s Steakhouse, Greeley;
• Dec. 6. 11:30 a.m. Phillips County Event Center, Holyoke;
• Dec. 6, 5 p.m., The Orphanage, Yuma;
• Dec. 7, 11:30 a.m., Dish Room, Burlington;
• Dec. 7, 5 p.m., Hickory House Restaurant, Lamar.
There also will be a meeting in Olathe later in the week, but Hahn said he would not be able to attend that meeting.
Hahn said the CCAC went
from eight districts to three, and there are changes in the organization’s elections. The committee has retained its four action teams: market development, research, sustainability and issues of engagement.
“The issues of engagement team used to be called regulations, but that cause some heartburn because it sounded like a lobbying group,” Hahn said. “We’re not allowed to lobby, but the issues of engagement team keeps our members updated on what’s going on in that area.”
Hahn said the U.S. Meat Export Federation will give a presentation.
“(CCAC belongs) to that because, guess who eats our corn?” he said. “It’s a great organization out of Denver. I went to their meeting in Oklahoma City (recently) and came away with lots of information on how they’re promoting beef, and lamb all over the world.”
The U.S. Grain Council also will have a representative at the meetings, Hahn said, because three of CCAC’S members are on that council. He said there may be some discussion of U.S. exports to Mexico because of the volume of grain exports that end up there.

The CCAC recently split from the Colorado Corn Growers Association; the two groups used to share administrative staff and headquarters but philosophical differences caused the groups to go their separate ways in 2020. They do work together, however, on areas of mutual interest.
