SNOW FALLS ON CITY

Milder temperatur­es expected later this week

A winter storm brought a major change to the weather overnight Monday, blanketing Sterling with several inches of snow by Tuesday morning.

Monday’s high reached 57 degrees, according to National Weather Service data. After temperatur­es dipped into the single digits overnight, the mercury peaked at around 25 degrees Tuesday afternoon.

NWS snowfall reports Tuesday afternoon showed 4.7 inches in Sterling, with other reports in Logan County ranging from 4.5 to 5 inches.

The forecast calls for a return to more mild conditions by the end of the week. Wednesday’s forecast shows the temperatur­e will climb from an overnight wind chill of below 0 to a high of about 38 degrees under sunny skies, while Thursday’s high is expected to be around 50.

For Friday, the NWS is predicting a high of 55, with sunny and windy conditions.

Precipitat­ion could return to the area by Monday.

The extended forecast from the NWS follows:

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 38. Wind chill values as low as -6. Southwest wind 5 to 14 mph becoming south southeast in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 22 mph.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 12. Southwest wind 6 to 9 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 50. Southwest wind 7 to 10 mph becoming south southeast in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 16 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 22. West southwest wind 6 to 9 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 55. Windy.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 14. Blustery.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 44. Breezy.
