The Overland Trail Museum is never more beautiful than it is at Christmas time! Several opportunities to enjoy an oldfashioned Christmas are being offered this season with the first Christmas on the Prairie open house taking place on Monday, Dec. 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. The very special guest for the evening is Don Booth or “Fire Truck Santa,” who will be giving rides on his antique, decorated fire truck!

Providing entertainment in the High Plains Education Center is Braedon and Peyton Kloberdanz, who are local favorites offering a variety of Christmas, gospel and country music.

Bundle up and join your friends and family as you take a leisurely stroll through the beautifully decorated grounds and buildings, taste a roasted chestnut by the campfire (prepared and served by Doug and Joann Conter) and warm up in the High Plains Education center with hot apple cider and cookies.

The second Christmas on the Prairie Open House will take place on Monday, Dec. 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. and will feature the theme “A Taste of Christmas.”

Local bakers will be offering bite-size Christmas treats to enjoy as you stroll through the decorated buildings. Local bakers will include: Jessica Brom of Wickedly Good Treats, The Bakery at Steele Terrain, Corla Enslow of Corla’s Kitchen, Tina Alvarez of Tina Marie Cakes and Kimberly and Mikayla Anthony. Providing music in the High Plains Education Center will be Arden Fennell and Friends offering a variety of gospel, Christmas and country music.

The third Open House will take place on Monday, Dec.19 from 5 to 7 p.m. and will feature the theme “The Sounds of Christmas.” The museum is looking for people who would enjoy an oldfashioned Christmas Caroling Party! If you, your family, or a group that you are involved in would like to be a part of this fun tradition, please call the museum at 970-522-3895. Roasted chestnuts, hot cider, Santa Claus and more will be offered once again at this final Christmas on the Prairie Open House.

On Wednesday, Dec. 21 the final History Café of 2022 will take place in the High Plains Education Center at 10:30 a.m. Christmas traditions will be discussed and a beautiful ornament will be made for you to take home. As always, muffins, coffee and history make History Café a favorite monthly program.

Please call the museum at 970-522-3895 to reserve your spot. A $3 admission charge applies.

The final Christmas event of the year will take place on Thursday, Dec. 22 when the museum staff will once again offer the “Red Lantern Christmas Tour.” Tour guides will take groups of up to 12 on a tour of the

grounds while listening to a story about one family’s first Colorado Christmas in the late 1800s. Tours will begin at the courtyard gate every 15 minutes beginning at 5 pm with the final tour beginning at 7 p.m.

All Christmas on the Prairie events, except for History Café, are offered to the public free of charge. For more information please call the museum or check The Overland Trail Museum Facebook page for updates and details.
