History Café to focus on the CCC Camp, Arbor Day

- By Kay Rich

What do Arbor Day, the CCC Camp and the Homestead Act all have in common? Come to Overland Trail Museum’s History Café to find out on Wednesday, April 24, at 10:30 a.m.

In 1874 Henry and Lydia Spencer made great strides to add some beauty and some shade to their new homestead in Sterling, Colorado by filing a Timber Claim. Learn about their venture as well as the work of CCC Camp SCS-15 in 1939 in Logan County and hear about the history of Arbor Day and why Sterling has been designated a “City of Trees”. Following the presentation, PLR Director Wade Gandee, will join us and answer questions about which trees do or do not do well on the Colorado plains and share some tree-growing tips!

We hope you will join us for muffins, coffee and history as we learn about and celebrate all things green! Space is limited so please call the museum at 970522-3895 to let us know that you are coming!
