Peetz baseball finds its legs

- By Alissa Noe

Through the early weeks of the spring season, wins came intermittently for Peetz baseball as the Bulldogs struggled to find any consistency. Over the last few days, they seem to finally have discovered the momentum that had been evading them up to that point.

The Bulldogs began their recent string of success with a double-header against Briggsdale last Wednesday. They won each by scores of 13-3 and 8-1. They ended the first inning of the first contest with a 4-2 advantage, then systematically added to their totals over the next five innings. Their offensive spurts came in sets of one, two and three runs.

All the while, the Falcons couldn’t seem to string hardly any more offense together before finally losing out in six innings. Peetz senior Nicoli Serkiz led his team at the plate with four RBIS, as he and sophomore Rhyder Bayne split the mound responsibilities evenly. Bayne struck out nine batters.

That victory broke toward a much easier one later in the day, even though both teams took their sweet time putting any score up on the scoreboard. The Bulldogs broke through first with a single run in the fourth and fifth inning each before the Falcons managed to respond with one of their own.

Peetz ended that comeback attempt, albeit muted, with six runs in the bottom of the sixth, and didn’t allow the Falcons to send a single runner home in the top of the seventh. The Bulldogs only earned two runs this time around, thanks to solo RBIS from Bayne and senior Aiden Hill.

The Bulldogs rode that wave into Monday’s contests against a struggling Weldon Valley team, which has yet to win a game this year. They flattened the Warriors with ease in 37-6 and 26-4 showings.

Now, they’ll look to wrap up their regular season with a home doubleheader against Sedgwick County on Wednesday.
