John Gary Krohn

PEKIN - John Gary Krohn, formerly of Pekin, Illinois, passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the age of 81.

Born on March 12, 1942, in Pekin, Illinois, to John and Alberta Mae (Wilson) Krohn, Gary was the eldest of four children and grew up in South Pekin. He graduated from Pekin Community High School, where he was active in sports, and attended Illinois State University on a trackand-field scholarshi­p and, later, Southern Illinois University, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity.

After his time in college, Gary followed in his father’s footsteps and became an ironworker. He had a hand in constructi­ng many bridges and buildings in the Missouri River basin, particular­ly in and around Kansas City and Omaha, where he was a proud member of Ironworker­s Local 21.

Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Cathy Lynn (Bastonero) Krohn; and his brother, Dennis Krohn. He is survived by his children, Michael Krohn and Erin Krohn, and their spouses; his siblings, Eric Krohn and Deborah Krohn; and his sisters-in-law, Julie Krohn, Gloria Bianchi and Anita Krause; as well as six nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd., Sioux City, Iowa, on March 7, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. Interment will be at a later date at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, Illinois, in a graveside service, with family present.
