James Fischer

MORTON - James William Fischer, 92, of Morton went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, February 23, 2024, at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton.

He was born on March 22, 1931, in Roanoke, Ill., to Elias and Lydia (Schlupp) Fischer, the seventh of nine children. Jim attended a oneroom country grade school and then graduated from Washington High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army and spent one year in Korea.

Jim gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ in 1956, serving Him faithfully for 68 years. He married Joann M. Baurer on October 5, 1958, in Tremont, and she survives. Also surviving are their two daughters, Diane (Fred) Funk of Morton and Rebecca (David) Hall of Madison, Ala.; grandchild­ren, Aaron (Kendra) Funk of Morton, Heather (Kyle) Plattner of Edwards, Ill., Adam (Lindsay) Funk of Morton, Holly (Caleb) Moser of Larchwood, Iowa, and Miriam Hall of Madison, Ala.;13 great-grandchild­ren; one sister, Wilma Teubel of Bloomfield, Iowa; two brothers, Leroy Fischer of Washington and Eli Fischer of Eureka; and a sister-in-law, Nilah Fischer of Morton. He was preceded in death by two sons, Keith Jeffrey in September of 1972 and Alan James in December of 2018; his parents; two sisters, Lorene Wiegand and Arlette Fehr; and three brothers, Fred, Lyle and Robert Fischer.

Jim was employed by Sam J. Getz Masonry in Morton, briefly at Caterpilla­r, and then Apostolic Christian LifePoints, retiring in 2006.

Jim was a member of the Morton Apostolic Christian Church, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2024. Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Morton Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Apostolic Christian LifePoints or Midwest Food Bank, both in Morton.
