Autumn Bird Hoop

Decorate for fall with this delicate bird stitched in rich autumnal colors. Finished simply in a wooden embroidery hoop, this design will bring a breath of simple elegance to any decor.

Skill Level: Intermediate Materials

• 12" x 12" piece 28- count white even

weave from Zweigart* • One skein each DMC® or Anchor® six

strand embroidery floss* • 1/4” diameter (6.35mm) gold sequins • Size 24 tapestry needle *See Where to Find It on page 65.

Stitch Count: 84H x 82W Design Size: 6" x 57/8"

Instructions: Cross stitch over two threads using two strands of floss. Where small symbols appear, work 1/4 cross stitch using two strands of floss.

Work backstitch over two threads using one strand of floss

Work French knot using two strands of floss and wrapping floss around needle twice.

Attach sequins using two strands of coordinating floss and referring to photograph for placement.

Finishing Materials & Instructions

• 6" embroidery hoop • 6" circle white felt for backing • 12" length ribbon for hanging • White craft glue

After completing design, place stitched piece in hoop, centering design. Trim excess fabric to leave 1" border around edge. Carefully fold in excess fabric to the back of hoop and cover with felt circle. Glue felt circle to back of hoop, trimming felt if needed; allow to dry overnight. Attach ribbon to metal screw on hoop for hanger.
