Born in 1837 in Selkirkshi­re in southern Scotland, sampler maker Alison Bathgate Watson stitched her sampler at the age of 19. Her sampler features four alphabets, varying borders, a selection of crowns, and a scene at the bottom with trees, rabbits and dogs. All are stitched in a rich, vibrant color palette.
