Instructio­ns:

Holding fabric by the short side, measure 3" from the top right corner to the left and 3" down to begin the first satin stitch block. Work vertical and horizontal satin stitch over four threads for border using one strand #5 pearl cotton.

Work vertical and horizontal satin stitch for star motifs using one strand #5 pearl cotton.

Work cable stitches over two threads using one strand #5 pearl cotton

Work vertical satin stitch for diamond stitches between star motifs using one strand #5 pearl cotton.

Using sharp embroidery scissors, cut fabric where red lines appear on chart. Carefully withdraw cut fabric threads.

Using one strand # 8 pearl cotton, work woven bars over remaining fabric threads.

Work adjoining wrap/Greek cross stitch using one strand # 8 pearl cotton for middle area.

Work web stitch using one strand # 8 pearl cotton.

Work dove’s eye stitches using one strand # 8 pearl cotton.

Finishing Instructio­ns:

Count the fabric threads on all four sides out from the border. You will need 50 threads for the hem so trim the fabric beyond the 50 fabric threads. For the hem, fold to the back 14 fabric threads and press to crease

ake a second fold and line up the first fold with the edge of the stitched row and pin in place on the back. Miter the corners as you come to them. Use red sewing thread to hem the edge.

Alternate size for the runner: Each section is 15 satin stitch blocks by 15 satin stitch blocks. The size can be longer by repeating the sections. The runner will be approximat­ely 28" long if you add two more sections, giving you two empty sections and three stitched sections.
