In­struc­tions: Cross stitch over two threads us­ing one strand of floss. Work cross stitch over one thread where small sym­bols ap­pear, us­ing one strand of floss.

Back­stitch over two threads us­ing one strand of floss.

Work French knot us­ing one strand of floss and wrap­ping floss around nee­dle twice.

Fin­ish­ing Ma­te­ri­als & In­struc­tions

• Two 8" x 8" pieces co­or­di­nat­ing fabric • 8" x 8" piece green felt • One spool Kreinik #002 gold very fine

braid #4 • 1 yard gold cord­ing • Gold bead cap • Dis­ap­pear­ing-ink mark­ing pen • Trac­ing pa­per • Fabric glue • Co­or­di­nat­ing sewing thread • Polyester fiber­fill • Sewing ma­chine (op­tional) Press stitched pieces from re­verse side, straight­en­ing as much as pos­si­ble.

Trace the bauble pat­tern given on page 55 onto trac­ing pa­per and cut out, adding a 1/4" seam al­lowance. Us­ing pa­per tem­plate and a dis­ap­pear­ing-ink pen, trace bauble shape onto stitched pieces cen­ter­ing stitched de­sign within the shape. Cut out.

Use the pa­per tem­plate to cut two bauble shapes from co­or­di­nat­ing fabric.

Trace the holly pat­tern given on page 55 onto trac­ing pa­per and cut out. Use pa­per tem­plate to cut three holly leaves from green felt.

Put one stitched de­sign piece and one co­or­di­nat­ing fabric piece to­gether with right sides fac­ing; pin to hold, match­ing points and shapes. Sew to­gether along one side, mak­ing sure to keep pieces aligned. Trim ex­cess seam al­lowance if needed. Press seam open. Re­peat with

other stitched piece and co­or­di­nat­ing fabric piece, sewing the op­po­site side to­gether.

Put the halves of the bauble right sides to­gether and pin in place, match­ing points and curves. Each stitched piece should be fac­ing a co­or­di­nat­ing fabric shape. Sew halves to­gether, leav­ing open a 1" space near top for turn­ing. Trim ex­cess seam al­lowance if nec­es­sary, ex­cept for seam al­lowance at open­ing.

Press seams open. Baste seam al­lowance at the open­ing for turn­ing to the wrong side. Turn right side out, care­fully smooth­ing all curves.

Stuff firmly with fiber­fill. Make sure the or­na­ment keeps its shape and is firm. Sew open­ing closed.

Us­ing fabric glue, at­tach braid along seams be­tween sec­tions. Be­gin glu­ing from the top, go aound and re­peat for the other side. Al­low glue to dry com­pletely.

Em­bel­lish felt holly leaves by work­ing back­stitch along the con­tour us­ing one strand # 002 very fine braid # 4.

Pin the leaves in place at the top of or­na­ment and glue in place. Insert the gold cord­ing through the hole in the bead cap. Tie a knot on it. Glue the knot to the bead cap. Insert the ex­cess ends of the cord­ing in­side the bead cap and glue it to the bauble, right in the cen­ter where points of holly leaves meet.
