Fallen autumn leaves worked in shades of topaz and reds settle delicately among evergreen leaves of the crisp season. A simple design of cross stitch, backstitch and beads is elevated to elegance by finishing it as a sachet. Easy-to-follow finishing instructio­ns will have this project eliciting oohs and aahs in no time.

evenweave from Zweigart® • One skein each DMC® or Sullivans®

Instructio­ns

Cross stitch over two threads using two strands of floss.

Backstitch over two threads using one strand of floss.

Work four-sided stitch over four threads using two strands of 742/45183.

Work diamond eyelet stitch over eight threads using one strand each of 946/45284 and 975/45304.

Attach beads using two strands of 742/45183 and a 1/2 cross stitch.

Finishing Instructio­ns

Press stitched pieces from reverse side, straighten­ing as much as possible.

Trim ½ " from four-sided stitch on sachet front. Fold raw edges to back; press. Repeat with sachet back.

Using two strands 742/45183, join sachet front and back with slip stitches through outer edge of four-sided stitches, adding a bead with each stitch and leaving a small opening for inserting filling. Stuff sachet as desired, then slip-stitch opening closed.
