Materials

• Two 10" x 10" pieces 24- count white congress cloth from Zweigart®

• One skein DMC® Color Variations pearl cotton #5

• One skein DMC® pearl cotton #8

• Size 24 tapestry needle

Instructions

From the top right corner of the fabric, measure 11/2 inches to the left and 11/2 inches down to begin the first Kloster block using one strand pearl cotton #5. Work all Kloster blocks and solid motifs (except inside corner diamond shapes).

Work buttonhole stitch over six threads using one strand pearl cotton #5 for outer border.

Using tiny sharp scissors, carefully cut where red lines indicate. Carefully remove cut threads. Work woven bar stitch over remaining threads using one strand pearl cotton # 8.

Work dove’s eye stitch over center of woven bar stitches using one strand pearl cotton # 8.

Work adjoining wrap/Greek Cross using one strand pearl cotton # 8.

Work web stitch using one strand pearl cotton # 8.

Work diamond shape motif in corners and backstitch using one strand pearl cotton # 8.

Finishing Materials & Instructions

• Two 4½" x 4½" squares brown felt • Fabric glue (optional)

Press stitched pieces from reverse side, straightening as much as possible. Trim excess outer fabric beyond the buttonhole stitch. Place each coaster on felt. Using sharp scissors, trim felt to preferred border. Glue corners of the stitched piece to the felt, or tack each corner with matching thread.
