Finishing Materials & Instructions

• Three small red buttons • Coordinating floss • One 93/4" x 31/4" piece and one 21/2"- diameter circle 28- count oatmeal evenweave fabric from Fabric Flair • Coordinating sewing thread • Polyester fiberfill • Four 11/2" metal washers • 12" length coordinating fine cording • Two 11/2" circles plaid fabric • Four 3/4" washers • 3 brown pipe cleaners • Size 8 knitting needle • 10" length 3/4"-wide strip plaid fabric Note: Refer to photo throughout assembly.

Press stitched pieces from reverse side, straightening as much as possible.

Body: Attach three red buttons on front of snowman Body below face using coordinating floss.

Trim Body piece to 93/4" x 31/4", centering stitching widthwise with 11/4" allowance above eyes and 1" allowance below bottom stitching.

Pin Body piece and 93/4" x 31/4" piece oatmeal fabric, right sides together. Cut a slight curve on top two corners. Sew together sides and top using a 1/4" seam allowance, leaving bottom open. Clip corners.

Turn assembled Body piece right side out. Stuff with polyester fiberfill until firm.

Using coordinating sewing thread, work a basting stitch around bottom edge of assembled piece. Place three 11/2" washers against fiberfill and gather basting stitch to keep washers inside.

Baste around edge of oatmeal fabric circle. Place remaining 11/2" washer on circle and pull basting stitches to gather fabric around washer. Place gathered side of circle into bottom of assembled Body piece and whipstitch in place. Stitch cording around seam.

Earmuffs: With design centered, trim both Earmuff pieces to 11/2" circles. Work basting stitch around edge of one Earmuff circle. Place a small amount of fiberfill on wrong side of circle and cover with one 3/4" washer. Gather basting stitch around washer. Repeat with second Earmuff circle and washer.

Work basting stitch around edge of one plaid circle and place one 3/4" washer on plaid circle. Gather basting stitch around washer. Repeat with second plaid circle and washer.

Place one assembled plaid circle and one assembled Earmuff circle wrong sides together. Whipstitch together to form Earmuff. Repeat for second Earmuff.

Whipstitch an Earmuff to opposite sides of snowman’s head, design side out, leaving a small opening on top edge for cording. Cut piece of cording long enough to reach between Earmuffs. Place each end of cording under an Earmuff and whipstitch in place.

Ornaments: Trim each Ornament piece to 3/8" from backstitch. Place two matching Ornament pieces wrong sides together and fold under seam allowance. Whipstitch together through backstitch, pausing at last side. Place small amount of fiberfill into ornament and stitch last side closed. Repeat for second ornament.

Finishing: Twist three pipe cleaners together to form arms. Push knitting needle through snowman from one side to the other to create hole for arms. Push pipe cleaners through hole until arms are even. Untwist pipe cleaners to form “fingers” and trim to desired length (one shorter on each side for “thumb”).

Use coordinating floss to connect Ornaments. Tie floss around one “finger” and fold finger over floss to secure.

To make scarf, tease out several threads on each end of 10" length of plaid strip to create fringe. Tie scarf around neck. Tack scarf in place with a few small stitches.
