Materials
• 10" x 10" piece 24- count white Congress Cloth from Zweigart®
• One ball each DMC® or Sullivans® USA pearl cotton #8
• Size 24 tapestry needle
Instructions
Fold fabric in half both ways to find center hole. From this center point, count six fabric threads to the right and six fabric threads up to begin the first satin stitch. Work all stitches using one strand of pearl cotton # 8.
Work all the satin stitch motifs and backstitch in the center section of the design using 321.
To frame the center section, work cable stitch rows first and then straight stitches to connect the two rows using blanc.
Work the ray stitches inside the center section of the design using blanc.
Work satin stitch motifs and backstitch in four corners outside the center section using 321.
Work ray stitches in the outer corners using blanc.
Carefully cut fabric threads along red lines shown on chart. There will be four fabric threads cut coming out from each corner in the center motif. On each of the four sides, cut the first four fabric threads, leaving the center four threads and then cut the last four fabric threads. Carefully pull cut fabric threads out, leaving the center fabric threads in both directions.
Stitch adjoining wrap with corner half webs using blanc.
Finishing Materials & Instructions
• Double-sided framing tape
• Trifold greeting card with 4" x 4" opening
Place stitched piece, design side down, on a terry towel so the stitches are not crushed. Trim off extra fabric from the edges, leaving a 5" square with centered design to mount behind the card opening. Press gently if needed.
Use double-sided framing tape to hold in place on card.
