Instructions
Cross stitch over two threads using two strands of floss.
Where small symbols appear, cross stitch over one thread using two strands of floss for mouse and one strand of floss for mouse hole.
Work backstitch over one thread using one strand of floss for mouse. Work backstitch over two threads using two strands of floss for remaining backstitch, except as indicated below.
Work straight stitch using two strands of floss.
Work French knot for mouse nose using one strand of floss and wrapping around needle twice.
Santa: On coat sleeve, on top of cross stitch, add backstitch over four threads using one strand of floss.
Hair: On top of cross stitches, work random curved stem stitch over two threads using four strands of floss.
Beard: On top of cross stitches, add French knots worked with four strands of floss and wrapping needle loosely. Around French knots, work random curved stem stitch over two threads using four strands of floss.
For cording on bag, work couching stitch: Arrange two strands of floss for laid thread and work tacking stitches every four linen threads using one strand of the same color to hold the laid thread in place. Tassels were created by leaving loose strands of floss at end of couching stitch cording.
Finishing Instructions
Referring to photo, sew an assortment of five 3/8" buttons to tree as shown.
Model was finished as a Flat Ornament. Trim was made with 3/ 16" cording. Hanger was made with 3/8"wide burgundy ribbon. Model was embellished with wired 21/2"-wide glitter ribbon.
