Spring Celebration
Spring Celebration is lovely table topper and ornament set that effortlessly combines blackwork-style stitching and cross stitch. Worked on crisp, white 28-count evenweave fabric, gold beads are used to add sparkle and interest.

Materials

• Frame: 11" x 11" piece 28- count white evenweave linen from Zweigart®
• One skein each DMC® or Sullivans® six-strand embroidery floss
• One package Mill Hill Seed Beads
• Size 24 tapestry needle
Instructions
Fold the fabric into quarters to find the center point. Work from the center of the design outward.
Cross stitch over two threads using one or two strands of floss as indicated in color code. Where small symbols appear, work 1/4 cross stitch using two strands of floss.
Work star eyelet stitch over eight threads using one strand of floss.
Work Algerian eye stitch over four threads using one strand of floss.
Backstitch over two threads using one strand of floss.
Attach beads using one strand of 604/45139 floss and 1/2 cross stitch.
Finishing Materials & Instructions
Table Topper
• 1/4 yard coordinating fabric
• Woven fusible interfacing
Place stitched piece facedown on a soft towel and press lightly. Trim piece to 1" from stitching on all sides.
Cut interfacing to same size as stitched piece. Following manufacturer’s instructions, fuse interfacing to back of stitched piece.
From coordinating fabric, cut two 31/2" x 7" strips and two 21/4" x 131/4" strips. With long edge at the top, lay one 31/2" x 7" strip along left edge of stitched piece, right sides together, and aligning raw edges. Sew together using 3/8" seam allowance. Repeat with remaining 31/2" x 7" strip for right edge. Trim edges even; press seams out toward border fabric.
In the same manner, attach 21/4" x 131/4" strips to top and bottom edges of stitched piece.
Cut piece of coordinating fabric the same size as assembled front panel. With right sides together, sew around all sides using a 3/8" seam allowance, and leaving a 3" opening at bottom center.
Turn piece right side out and press lightly. Whipstitch opening closed.
Sew all around edge of assembled piece using a 1/4" seam allowance.
