Finishing Materials & Instructions Goody Bag
• 12" x 10" piece 28- count miracle mint Cashel linen from Zweigart® for backing fabric
• 33/4" x 15" piece coordinating fabric for
top edge
• Two 11" x 7" pieces lining fabric
• Two 32" lengths 1/4"-wide satin ribbon • Pinking shears
• Sewing machine
Press stitched piece from reverse side, straightening as much as possible. Trim stitched piece to 107/8" x 73/4" with design centered from each side and with top of stitched design 31/4" from the top edge of linen, and bottom of stitched design 21/4" from the bottom edge of linen. Following design, trim sides in a symmetrical funnel shape, leaving approximately 2" fabric margin outside stitched
design on each side. Trim unstitched backing linen and lining fabric pieces to same size.
Pin stitched and unstitched pieces of linen together with right sides together, matching edges. Using a 1/4" seam allowance and starting at top right, sew down 11/2"; leave a 1/2" gap and continue sewing down remainder of side to bottom point and up the opposite side to 2" from top; leave a 1/2" gap and continue sewing remainder of the side.
Pin lining fabric pieces right sides together, matching edges. Sew around sides and bottom, leaving a 4" opening near bottom point for turning.
Turn lining right side out. Place the lining inside the linen bag with right sides together.
Sew around the top edge. Turn bag right side out through the opening in lining. Stitch the lining opening closed and push to the inside of bag. Press.
After making sure outer bag and lining are smooth and flat, stitch around bag 11/2" down from top edge and then 2" down from top edge to create the casing for the ribbon.
Using pinking shears, trim edges of coordinating fabric for top of bag. Pin fabric around top of bag opening so that ends meet at back center. Sew fabric to bag approximately 1" from top edge of bag. Sew ends of fabric together at back of bag. Press.
Run one ribbon through casing so that both ends are at opening on one side; run the other ribbon through the casing so that ends are at the opening on the opposite side. Cinch ribbons to close and tie ends on each side in a bow.
