Materials

• 8" x 9" piece 24- count white Congress Cloth from Zweigart®

• One ball each DMC® Pearl Cotton #8

• Size 24 tapestry needle

Instructions

Note: Fold the fabric in half both ways to find the center point. Begin the first satin stitch at the gold dot on chart. Work satin stitch using one strand of pearl cotton. Cross stitch over two threads using one strand of pearl cotton. Backstitch over two threads using one strand of pearl cotton. Using sharp embroidery scissors, carefully cut and remove the fabric threads where blue cut lines appear on chart. Referring to chart, work woven bars and center dove’s eye stitch over remaining fabric threads using one strand of 909 pearl cotton.

• Sewing machine (optional) Press stitched piece from reverse side, straightening as much as possible. Trim stitched piece to 1/2" from stitching on all sides. Fold under long top and bottom edges at stitching; press. Using stocking template provided, cut two pieces from coordinating fabric. Place the stitched piece 21/2" down from the top edge on the right side of one fabric cutout, keeping top and bottom edges of stitched piece folded under. Pin in place. Place the second cutout right sides together over the first cutout and pin in place; sew the sides and bottom edges of the stocking, leaving the top open. Turn the stocking right side out. Fold the top edge of fabric to the inside of the stocking twice, leaving about 1/2" of fabric showing above stitched piece; press. Carefully whipstitch the inside folded edge of hem to hold, being careful not to stitch through stitched piece where it will be seen on the outside. Sew hanger at heel-side seam as shown in photo.
