Tigani hopes to see Kane girls continue to improve
The Kane softball team evened their mark at 2-2 with three-inning, home wins over Sheffield (22-1) and Smethport (15-0) last week.
Head coach Pat Tigani is happy how his team is gelling heading into the Lady Wolves three road games this week.
“I think you’re starting to see us swing the bat better. We were ice cold in our losses (Elk County Catholic and Curwensville) and we were striking out. Maybe we can get things going there. That makes a big difference. When you hit, you’re not bleeding every time there’s a little mistake,” he said following Friday’s win over the Lady Hubbers.
On the mound, the Lady Wolves were bolstered by strong pitching from freshman Leah Tigani and Maya Stahli threw no and one-hitters respectively.
The Kane girls travel to 1-3 Port Allegany today, play in Johnsonburg against the 1-2 Ramettes on Tuesday, and make a trip to DuBois on Thursday to take on unbeaten, 4-0 DuBois Central Christian.
Tigani wants to see his young team play better as it gains confidence.
“I want to see us play the DuBois Central Catholics and the Curwensville's of the World and compete and get some swings. This is a good group and there is a big difference from when we started practice to now,” he said.
The Lady Wolves lost their opener to Elk County Catholic (3-2) 12-3 on Mar. 30 and fell to Curwensville (2-1) 8-0 on Apr. 6.
The head coach, who is assisted by Judy Kessler and Keith Anderson, was pleased with how seniors Emma Ely and Mia Smith boosted the squad before the Smethport win.
“We had a sloppy pregame work out and the seniors sort of got after them and said let’s pick it up and they did. I’m pretty happy with that,” Tigani said.
Other Lady Wolves include juniors Jenny Crowley, Makieya McGuire, and Madison Stahli, sophomores Emma Danielson, Elaina Dean, and Sydney Slater, and freshmen Ava Brinkley, Kate Parana, and Elizabeth Yasurek.
