Craig Oakes sworn in as member of KFP

- By Claire Galvin Staff Writer

Wednesday evening, Craig Oakes was sworn in by Mayor Brandy Schimp as the newest member of the Kane Fire Police. Oakes is a strong believer in giving back to his community and has been a member of the Kane Volunteer Fire Department as a firefighter since 2012.

When Oakes heard the department’s fire police are always in need of more help, he decided to join, knowing it would be a good fit. Over this past week

end, Oakes attended training at Tri County Fire School in Smethport for fire police certification.

Swearing in is the final step to becoming an official member of the fire police but Oakes plans on continuing to attend classes to further his knowledge. He is looking forward to serving the community as a member of the fire police.

The position of fire policeman requires a significant amount of training, because they carry a tremendous amount of responsibility. A Pennsylvania fire police badge issues authority for the entire state except for the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

The Kane Volunteer Fire Department is always in need of more fire police. If you would like to become a volunteer firefighter or fire policeman, you can contact any member of the Kane Volunteer Fire Department.
