The Kane Wolves baseball team traveled to DuBois on a cold Thursday afternoon to take on a talented DCC Cardinals team. The Wolves used a 10-hit attack and strong pitching from Bobby Rumcik and Carson Whiteman to drop the home team by a score of 7-4.

Rumcik picked up the win on the mound for Kane going three innings allowing three runs on four hits with four walks and a strikeout. Whiteman pitched four innings giving up one run on two hits with nine Ks.

Jack Adair suffered the loss for DCC allowing six runs on eight hits in five innings.

Andy Jekielek, Whiteman, Rumcik, Reese Novosel and Bryce Bizzak had two hits each in the win. Novosel's clutch hitting led to three RBIs. Rumcik scored three times for Kane. Ben Gritzer had two hits and two RBIs for DCC.

The Wolves scored five big runs in the second inning after a scoreless first. Curt Barner walked and Rumcik followed with a deep double. A Novosel double scored both runners. Bizzak singled and Landon Darr walked. A Whiteman double and Jekielek single after a Jake Costanzo sac fly put Kane ahead to stay 5-0.

DCC answered with two in the bottom of the second. The Wolves added a run in the third and one in the seventh and cruised to the 7-4 win.

"It was a great team win with lots of energy in the dugout and on the field," said Kane head coach Josh Jekielek. "Our bats got going tonight throughout the lineup and our defense made all the plays in the field. Playing on turf presents some different defensive challenges, but our kids adapted well."

The Wolves were at full strength with the return of key players. Kane improves to 5-1 on the season and travels to AC Valley on Saturday morning at 11:00 a..m.
