Mount Jewett Borough and Hamlin Township work together

Clarificat­ion on the $700 offer agreement between Hamlin Township and Mount Jewett Borough for the use of the Street Sweeper was brought to attention by Borough Council President Brett Morgan who stated that they can no longer rent the Street Sweeper for a minimum of three days. The minimum rental is five days. It was proposed to Hamlin Township to sweep their streets for $700 to offset some of the cost of the Street Sweeper. In 2021 the Street Sweeper cost $2,500. For this year, 2022, the cost is $3,500.

Annie Wolfe announced National Day of Prayer will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 5 at the Mount Jewett United Methodist Church.

Councilman Tom Geer stated that Jake Troutman will take on projects in the Mount Jewett Community Park to further earn his Eagle Scout.

Councilman Jason Hughes stated that PRISM Glass Recycling contacted him as the Mount Jewett Rotary President in regards to informing residents where the bins have been placed and encouragin­g the community of Mount Jewett to use the recycling bins at the end of Mcclellan Avenue.

At the May 2 Regular Meeting, Borough Council made a decision to purchase equipment necessary for the Borough Manager to work from home during her recuperati­on process, allowing the Borough to run smoothly through this unexpected medical leave.

President Brett Morgan and Councilwom­an Chris Park have stepped up due to the Borough Manager’s absence to keep the Mount Jewett Borough running as smoothly as possible.

Work being done at the Mount Jewett Community Park is progressin­g forward. Soon the old and outdated spring rides will be removed and replaced with stand-alone child swing. New swing seats have been ordered for the existing swing set.

The issue with the birds at the pavilion behind the baseball field is being addressed and will be remedied as soon as possible.

Councilman Francis Auriemmo stated that he is getting a complete quote for a play-set for the Mount Jewett Community Park and the quote should be available at next month’s Borough Meeting.

Community & Environmen­tal Artist Angela Cornelius attended the meeting and announced to Council that she is hosting a “World Labyrinth Day” event on Saturday, May 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cornelius Creative Event Space, Art Studio & Gallery at the renovated historic St. Margarets Church, 13 Gallup Avenue, Mount Jewett, PA. The Labyrinth is designed with sunflower sculptures and those who attend the free event will be planting sunflowers to show support for Ukraine.

Mount Jewett Memorial Library (MJML) Director Kelly Barr Hughes stated that the free “Star Wars Day, May the 4th Be With You” event will be held at the MJML on May 4 between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. “Stop in and see what Robin has in plan for the Jedis in training. It will be fun,” said Hughes.

Spring Fling in Mount Jewett on May 21 will have food vendors including the taco truck from Taco Incorporat­ed Company in Warren, town-wide yard sales, and more.

Kelly Barr Hughes mentioned the vandalism that has happened in Kane at Evergreen Park and expressed her concern about facing the same situation and suggested security cameras at the baseball fields and the community park with money raised from fundraisin­g by the Mount Jewett Rotary and the Mount Jewett Hilltop Heritage Coalition.
