Girls Track Team have good showing at Altoona despite poor weather

-

The Kane Wolves Track Team participated in the Altoona Invitational Friday and came back with some good times and distances. Coach Jim Sirianni said, “It was and exceptionally poor weather day with cold and heavy rain for most of the meet, but excellent performances from many of the Kane girls. The meet is extremely competitive and placing at this level is very hard to do but the young girls we have this year really did well. With only two weeks left before the District 9 Championship meet we now look forward to hopefully improving our heights, distances and times."

Senior Serrena Conklin took 5th in the triple jump with a jump of 30' 6”. Trying to hit her approach marks and being consistent through all the phases in the triple jump is really hard to do in weather she was jumping in so I was really happy for her 5th place finish. Katie Colosimo finished 7th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 19.04. Colosimo has really developed into a very good hurdler her senior year getting three steps between numerous hurdles which is very hard to do. Myka Costanzo had a good day finishing 2nd in the discus with a throw of 92' 1” and 4th in the javelin with a throw of 100' 5”. Hailey Hillman took 2nd in the javelin with a nice throw of 101' 9”. Costanzo and Hillman spent a great deal of time developing technical throwing skills with Coach Whitman and Szymanski and all that practice time is really paying off for both of them as we move into the last portion of our season. The girls 4x100m relay team had a nice showing as they took 8th place. The team is comprised of Colosimo, Molly Dinger, Mackenzie Bentley and Emily Stephan. That is a very good showing for such a young team. Dinger had a PR (Personal Record) in the 800m run with a time of 2:50.80. This new PR took five seconds off her previous best so I was really happy for Dinger. Two 9th graders had good 100m dash times and just finished out of medal contention. Bentley finished 10th and Stephan placed 11th.

Kane will return to action today when they travel to St. Mary's for a Tri-meet when they take on Elk County Catholic and Johnsonburg. The meet is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
