Johnsonburg team balance carries them to big win over Kane 12-4

- Keith Reigel Staff Writer

The visiting Johnsonburg Rams showed why they should be a team to look out for in the playoffs. Kane got a good start in the game as they got the leadoff batter to fly out, the second batter was able to line a single and stole second. Pitcher Harley Morris was able to get a big out when he got Cameron Marciniak to fly out. The next batter Aiden Zimmerman came up with a big RBI single. Then the big blow of the inning catcher Ethan Wells hit a home run over the left field fence giving Johnsonburg the lead they would never relinquish. Kane responded in the bottom half of the first as leadoff batter Morris was able to work a walk and Shane

Ackley stayed hot as he lined a single to right field. Andy Jekielek and Justin Peterson followed with singles of their own and Kane was now only down 3-2 after what looked to be a big deficit. Johnsonburg continued to put pressure on the Kane defense and with the aid of some bad errors the Rams put two more runs across in the second. They would add three more runs in the next two innings and take an 8-2 lead into the top of the fifth. Kane would score two runs in the bottom of the fifth and cut the lead in half 4-8. But that would be the last time Kane would be able to mount any offense while Johnsonburg would add four more runs and take home a nice 12-4 victory.

For Kane leadoff batter Morris was on base twice with a single, walk and he scored two runs. Ackley had another good game with 2 singles and a run scored, while teammates Jekielek scored the fourth run. Peterson and Curt Barner also contributed with two hits apiece.

Johnsonburg was able to get big contributions from the top 5 in the order as they scored 9 of the team’s 12 runs. Cleanup hitter Aiden Zimmerman led the way as he got on base all five times with 4 hits and a walk while scoring 4 runs. Also coming up big for the Rams were Luke Zimmerman with two hits and a run scored, Dom Allegretto two hits a walk and two runs scored, Marciniak three hits and a run scored, Kaden Dennis three hits, a walk and a run scored, Caden Smiley with two hits and two runs scored. It was a total team effort today by the visiting Rams.

Kane will return to action Thursday when they will host Dubois Central Catholic. Game is scheduled to start at 4:15.
