Cooper Nystrom honored at halftime
KANE - At halftime of the Kane wrestling match against Coudersport Wednesday, December 20 Shawn (Cooper) Nystrom was honored with a plaque by Kane High School Trap team founder Ed Sleeman. Nystrom was recognized for his achievement in becoming an All-american Trap Shooter.
“It is indeed an honor and pleasure to present this award to “Coop” in recognition of his achievement in becoming the first All-american Trap Shooter in the history of Kane High School,” said Sleeman.
Nystrom lettered 3 years in trap as we did not shoot in 2020 due to Covid. He was a 2-time Kane High School and League Singles Champion with an amazing average of 98.8% x100 broken targets. He led his team to the League Championship and the Pennsylvania State Championship.
During the summer of 2021, in his quest to become an Allamerican Cooper shot over 16,500 registered targets in competition in three states (New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio). Additional All-american requirements state you must place in the top 3 in your class to qualify. Also, you must shoot a
minimum of 7 qualifying shoots that have at least 450 competitors competing in singles, doubles and handicap.
With the support of his parents Inky and Mar and his brother Tucker and grandparents Coop shot and broke 97% in singles, 90% doubles and 88% handicap from the 27 yard line to win this award. “In short, one must prove that he is worthy of being called an “All-american Trap Shooter” because he is truly shooting against the “Best of the Best, stated Sleeman.”
The plaque will be hung in the hallway of Kane Area High School along with all the other outstanding athletes.
