Team balance carries Pennsylvania over New York

- Keith Reigel

PORTVILLE, NY - The Pennsylvania girls Big 30 All-stars jumped out to a 47-29 halftime lead and never looked back as they defeated New York 8466. Four girls scored double figures in the game for the Pennsylvania All-stars with District 9 leading scorer Jayssa Snelick of St. Marys and Elizabeth Hungiville of Smethport leading the way with 15 points apiece followed closely by 13 from Sydney Alexander of Elk County Catholic and Jenna Kasmierski of Ridgway chipping in with 11. Kasmierski and Snelick each connected on a pair of 3-pointers to help PA take the lead with Snelick finishing with 10 points, Sami Straub of Elk County Catholic who also hit one 3-pointer tallied all nine of her points in the first half and Kasmierski hit eight points to help the visitors jump out to the lead. Pennsylvania had a little rough start trying to force a few passes which led to turnovers but their pressure defense kept New York at bay. The long shots were not falling for NY and the girls were able to take advantage of that as they kept attacking but shooting the threes when the opportunity

was there. The inside presence of Hungiville who tallied 10 of her teamtying 15 in the second half and Alexander who tallied nine led the second-half scoring. Pennsylvania hit eight 3-pointers in the game while New York was able to hit on just three. Lilly Bentley of Portville was the lone double-figure scorer for NY as she led all scorers in the game with 17.
