Scrambled Egg Hunt at the Kane Area Community Center

KANE—THE Kane Area Community Center put on a special Easter treat for some of their regular after school visitors on Wednesday. Director Michelle Palmer hosted a game that put a special twist on the typical Easter egg hunt. Her game, the “Scrambled Egg Hunt” had the kids racing from one end of the Center to the other.

On one side of the room were colored eggs holding a piece of paper with a single letter on it. On the opposite side of the room, prizes of all kinds were displayed with a matching word.

The goal of the game was to spell out a complete word one letter at a time for the desired prize—the person to place the last letter completing the word would win that prize.

For example, C-A-SH was written beside a five dollar bill. C-AN-D-Y was another, for a bag of candy treats. There were dozens of prizes and words. There were several dozen eggs with letters to spell out the words.

"On your mark, set, go!"palmer shouted as

she released the players. They went to work, strategizing on where to place a “C” and trying to time things just right to get the last letter down and claim the loot. Holding a letter was not allowed, so no hanging out and sniping the prize at the last second.

At the end of the first round, the kids were all winded from the fast paced race to grab an egg, and lay down their choice. It was controlled chaos.

There were enough prizes to go around. The exhausted kids sat back down, showing off their new winnings.

The community center is open Monday through Friday after school from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. and they get quite a few regulars who come in to hang out with friends, play basketball, and other games in the wide open hall of the Center.

In addition to the wholesome fun, they also provide snacks.

Palmer said “Everyday after school we do a snack, and in the summer we do lunches.” The free lunches can be eaten at the Center or taken out. Assistant Director Linda Eschrich said they get about 30 to 40 kids that come for the lunches.

Eschrich said the scrambled egg hunt event “was their big hurrah” since the Center will be closed Friday through Monday for the Easter Holiday.
