Regional meeting unites elected officials for state and local communication
The recent MCWAPEC (Mckean, Warren, Potter, Elk, and Cameron counties) meeting in Emporium was a crucial gathering for elected officials. These meetings, held several times a year, are vital for exchanging information. Topics range from grants to community issues such as managing stray cats, reflecting the diverse concerns of the participating counties.
Emporium Borough Mayor Justin Zimmer attended, adding local perspective and insight to the discussions. This inclusive approach ensures that the needs and priorities of Emporium and its residents are well-represented in the collaborative efforts of the MCWAPEC meetings.
The board, comprised of dedicated individuals from the region, plays a pivotal role in orchestrating these sessions. Bev Morris, representing the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs (PSAB) from Coudersport, along with Rachel Kilhoffer from Johnsonburg, who serves as the secretary and treasurer, and Troy
M. Clawson, president of the board from Youngsville, work tirelessly to ensure the success of these collaborative efforts. Jeremy Morey, vice president from Port Allegany, adds valuable contributions to the proceedings.
Donald "Stretch" Reed, representing Emporium, holds the position of president of the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs (PSAB). His leadership is invaluable, and he regularly attends MCWAPEC
meetings, including the recent one.
Zimmer expressed his deep respect for Reed, noting that he listens intently to his insights and has learned a great deal from him. He emphasized Reed's pivotal role in providing a voice for officials within the five counties at the state level, ensuring their concerns are heard and addressed. Zimmer went further to describe Reed as a walking encyclopedia, highlighting his wealth
of knowledge and expertise.
Turning the focus to the Emporium Borough, Zimmer underscored the town's manufacturing heritage and its ongoing capability in this sector. He emphasized their continuous search for opportunities to attract more businesses, particularly in manufacturing, to the town. This proactive approach reflects Emporium's commitment to economic growth and development, leveraging its strengths to create a vibrant and sustainable community.
