Ferry service between Providence and Bristol begins today

-

The State of Rhode Island is slated to start up a new commuter ferry service today to help with last week's Washington Bridge shut down. The new ferry service aims to help make traveling from the West Bay area easier and provide an alternative option to sitting in the traffic in and out of the city.

Rhode Island Fast Ferry has been contracted along with two other ferry companies, Interstate Navigation and Seatreak, to provide the ferry service.

Ferries will run at half hour intervals starting at 6 a.m. from the Maritime Center in Bristol to India Point Park in Providence, with shuttle bus service from Colt State Park to the ferry dock in Bristol and from India Point to Providence Station. All services will be free to the public. The ferry trip should take about 35 minutes each way and service has been scheduled to operate through the end of March.

Rhode Island Fast Ferry, based in Quonset Point, has immediate openings for full and part time work for deckhands and mates. All employees will start and end their workday in North Kingstown at Quonset Point. To apply for a position, visit their webpage at www.fastferry.com and click on "employment."
