Two Worton men convicted of 2017 Delaware murder
DOVER, DEL. — Worton area residents DePaul Mashawn Wilson and Guy Edward Jones Jr. were convicted of felony first-degree murder April 26 following a trial in Superior Court here that began April 17.
Jurors also convicted the men of second-degree murder, first-degree attempted robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Bail was revoked for both men.
Sentencing has been set for Aug. 29.
Wilson, 37, and Jones, 28, were convicted of the shoot- ing death of Javan Cale, 31, in his Dover apartment on Jan. 10, 2017.
They pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Both men chose not to testify.
Prosecutors argued that Cale was fatally shot during an exchange of gunfire between Wilson and Jones that was preceded by an arranged marijuana deal.
Wilson and Jones also were injured, though only Wilson sought medical treatment.
Police developed Jones as a suspect after viewing videotape from the free- standing emergency room in Middletown, Del., that allegedly shows Jones accompanying Wilson to the ER after the shooting, Lt. Dennis Hickman of the Kent County Sheriff’s Office said.
Also, Jones often drove the suspect vehicle and a witness to the shooting described a man matching Jones’ description as being involved, according to police.
The Kent County Sheriff’s Office and the Dover Police Department apprehended the men at their respective homes the day after the shooting.
