UM Shore Re­gional Health of­fers skin can­cer screen­ings

CHESTERTOWN — To pro­mote early de­tec­tion of skin can­cer, the Can­cer Cen­ter at Univer­sity of Mary­land Shore Re­gional Health is work­ing with var­i­ous com­mu­nity part­ners to of­fer free skin can­cer screen­ings through­out the re­gion.

The dates in­clude:

• From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Satur­day at the Kent County Health Depart­ment, 125 Lynch­burg St., Chestertown. For more in­for­ma­tion or to sched­ule an ap­point­ment, call An­drea Ed­wards at 410-778-7970.

• From 5 to 8 p.m. Thurs­day, May 31 at Eas­ton Der- ma­tol­ogy As­so­ci­ates, 403 Marvel Court, Eas­ton. Pr­ereg­is­tra­tion is re­quired for this lo­ca­tion; to sched­ule an ap­point­ment, call the Can­cer Cen­ter at Univer­sity of Mary­land Shore Re­gional Health at 410-820-6800.

• From 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thurs­day, June 14 at Shore Der­ma­tol­ogy, 100 Bram­ble St., Suite 1, Cam­bridge. Pre-regis­tra­tion is re­quired for this lo­ca­tion; to sched­ule an ap­point­ment, call the Can­cer Cen­ter at UM Shore Re­gional Health at 410-8206800.

All screen­ings are open to the public. Un­derin­sured and unin­sured are en­cour­aged to par­tic­i­pate.

Ac­cord­ing to the Skin Can­cer Foun­da­tion, skin can­cer is the most com­mon type of can­cer, with more than 5.4 mil­lion cases of non-melanoma skin can­cer treated an­nu­ally in the United States. It is also the easi- est to cure, if di­ag­nosed and treated in its early stages.
