Donna D.G. Hickman
ROCK HALL — Donna Darby Grip Hickman of Rock Hall passed away on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018 at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Chestertown, at the age of 81.
Born on Oct. 7, 1937 in Passaic, N.J. to the late Eric and Martha Zitzelman Grip, Ms. Hickman graduated from Vassar College, and true to her spirit of adventure and generosity, taught English in Tangiers, Morocco, early in her career.
She married Loren Hickman and spent the next 20 years living first in Chicago and then in Rockville. Ms. Hickman later moved to Rock Hall, where she resided for 20 years.
Ms. Hickman spent her adult life as an artisan, creating and selling functional pottery, as well as painting and sketching. Ms. Hickman was a regular vendor at the Rock Hall Farmers Market and many annual craft events. She enjoyed winning word and card games, watching all manner of mov-
ies, reading voraciously, taking in classical music and concerts, traveling and spending time with her friends. She was a unique and memorable character who lived life on her own terms.
She is survived by two sons, David Hickman (Melissa) of Fairfax, Calif. and Simeon Hickman (Abigail) of Asheville, N.C.; a brother, Alan Grip of Cape May, N.J.; two grandchildren, Daniel and Darby Hickman of Boone, N.C.; and her exhusband, Loren Hickman of San Francisco, Calif.
A Celebration of Life and memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Chestertown Unitarian Universalist Church in Chestertown.
