ROCK HALL — Donna Darby Grip Hick­man of Rock Hall passed away on Thurs­day, Nov. 29, 2018 at Univer­sity of Mary­land Shore Med­i­cal Cen­ter at Chestertown, at the age of 81.

Born on Oct. 7, 1937 in Pas­saic, N.J. to the late Eric and Martha Zitzel­man Grip, Ms. Hick­man grad­u­ated from Vas­sar Col­lege, and true to her spirit of ad­ven­ture and gen­eros­ity, taught English in Tang­iers, Morocco, early in her ca­reer.

She mar­ried Loren Hick­man and spent the next 20 years liv­ing first in Chicago and then in Rockville. Ms. Hick­man later moved to Rock Hall, where she resided for 20 years.

Ms. Hick­man spent her adult life as an ar­ti­san, cre­at­ing and sell­ing func­tional pot­tery, as well as paint­ing and sketch­ing. Ms. Hick­man was a reg­u­lar ven­dor at the Rock Hall Farm­ers Mar­ket and many an­nual craft events. She en­joyed win­ning word and card games, watch­ing all man­ner of mov-

ies, read­ing vo­ra­ciously, tak­ing in clas­si­cal mu­sic and con­certs, trav­el­ing and spend­ing time with her friends. She was a unique and mem­o­rable char­ac­ter who lived life on her own terms.

She is sur­vived by two sons, David Hick­man (Melissa) of Fair­fax, Calif. and Simeon Hick­man (Abi­gail) of Asheville, N.C.; a brother, Alan Grip of Cape May, N.J.; two grand­chil­dren, Daniel and Darby Hick­man of Boone, N.C.; and her ex­hus­band, Loren Hick­man of San Fran­cisco, Calif.

A Cel­e­bra­tion of Life and me­mo­rial ser­vice will be held at 11 a.m. Satur­day, Dec. 8, at the Chestertown Uni­tar­ian Univer­sal­ist Church in Chestertown.

In lieu of flow­ers, con­tri­bu­tions may be made in her mem­ory to the Hu­mane So­ci­ety of Kent County Inc., P.O. Box 352, Chestertown, MD 21620.
