GALENA — Roland “Rodie” Owen Jr., 44, of Galena passed away on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018 at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, after a short illness.
Born with Cornelia de Lange syndrome, he defied all odds and lived a full and happy life. He was born on Feb. 8, 1974 in Woodbury, N.J., the son of Roland Owen Sr. and Melissa Turnbull Owen of Galena.
Rodie loved interacting with people and getting around town. He was a familiar face to many. He was always bright and cheerful and touched many people with his smile. He loved eating and going on garden tractor rides. Rodie had an inner spirit that radiated joy to those surrounding him.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents Betty Turnbull of Woodstown, N.J. and Dave Turnbull and his wife Helen of Ft. Myers, Fla.; a sister, Shannon Mallonee and her husband Dave of Greeneville, Tenn.; a brother, Christopher Owen and his wife Kristen of Fairlee; his nieces and nephews Owen, Abigail and Ethan Mallonee; two uncles, John Owen (Karen) and Charlie Owen (Margie); and two aunts, Beth Storicks (Walt) and Clare Nichols. He also was survived by his many caring friends and staff at Kent Center.
He was predeceased by a brother, Daniel Owen, in 2007 and his paternal grandparents Raymond and Helen Humphrey.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Eastern Shore Bible Baptist Church in Galena, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8. Interment will be in the church cemetery following the service.
