GALENA — Roland “Rodie” Owen Jr., 44, of Galena passed away on Thurs­day, Nov. 29, 2018 at Univer­sity of Mary­land Med­i­cal Cen­ter in Bal­ti­more, af­ter a short ill­ness.

Born with Cor­nelia de Lange syn­drome, he de­fied all odds and lived a full and happy life. He was born on Feb. 8, 1974 in Wood­bury, N.J., the son of Roland Owen Sr. and Melissa Turn­bull Owen of Galena.

Rodie loved in­ter­act­ing with peo­ple and get­ting around town. He was a fa­mil­iar face to many. He was al­ways bright and cheer­ful and touched many peo­ple with his smile. He loved eat­ing and go­ing on gar­den trac­tor rides. Rodie had an in­ner spirit that ra­di­ated joy to those sur­round­ing him.

In ad­di­tion to his par­ents, he is sur­vived by his ma­ter­nal grand­par­ents Betty Turn­bull of Wood­stown, N.J. and Dave Turn­bull and his wife He­len of Ft. My­ers, Fla.; a sis­ter, Shan­non Mal­lonee and her hus­band Dave of Greeneville, Tenn.; a brother, Christo­pher Owen and his wife Kris­ten of Fair­lee; his nieces and neph­ews Owen, Abi­gail and Ethan Mal­lonee; two un­cles, John Owen (Karen) and Char­lie Owen (Margie); and two aunts, Beth Storicks (Walt) and Clare Ni­chols. He also was sur­vived by his many car­ing friends and staff at Kent Cen­ter.

He was pre­de­ceased by a brother, Daniel Owen, in 2007 and his pa­ter­nal grand­par­ents Ray­mond and He­len Humphrey.

A visi­ta­tion will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Fri­day, Dec. 7, at Eastern Shore Bi­ble Bap­tist Church in Galena, where ser­vices will be held at 11 a.m. Satur­day, Dec. 8. In­ter­ment will be in the church ceme­tery fol­low­ing the ser­vice.
