Vehicular assault charge for driver who hit motorcyclist
SOUTH KITSAP — A 23-year-old woman who said she had consumed alcohol at the Kitsap Fair on Friday night was arrested after a crash involving a motorcycle on Sidney Road, according to court documents. The motorcyclist suffered a fractured leg and had multiple bruises and abrasions following the crash, a Kitsap County sheriff’s deputy wrote in a report.
The woman was charged with a count of vehicular assault while driving under the influence in Kitsap County Superior Court on Monday.
The deputy wrote that the crash occurred on Sidney
Road near its intersection with Wildwood Road at about 10:40 p.m. The woman had been driving northbound on Sidney Road and was making a left turn into her driveway as the motorcyclist, who had the rightof-way, was approaching while driving southbound, according to court documents. The woman failed to yield, and the motorcycle crashed into the passenger side of her vehicle, the deputy wrote.
The deputy wrote that the woman remained at the crash scene for an “unknown period” and then went to her residence, about 125 feet away from that location. Deputies contacted her, and she was cooperative during the investigation, the deputy wrote.
“She indicated that she had been looking at her car radio when she was turning into her driveway and did not see the approaching motorcycle,” the deputy wrote, noting that she smelled of intoxicants and admitted to drinking alcohol at the fair between 7:15 and 9:45 p.m. She indicated she had two draft beers, later added that she had also consumed a double shot of tequila and also said that she had smoked marijuana at about 2 p.m. and had also taken half of an unknown muscle relaxant medication.
Her performance in field sobriety tests indicated impairment, and a preliminary breath test provided a reading of .183, according to court documents. The legal drinking limit is .08 in Washington. The woman was arrested and booked into the Kitsap County Jail.
