RUTLEDGE - Joseph Larry Scoggins – of Rutledge, Tennessee passed away on August 28, 2023 at Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, Tennnessee, at the age of 80. Joseph was born on November 18, 1942, in McCracken County, Kentucky. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1962 until 1966 and earned his bachelor’s degree in Indianapol­is, Indiana. He enjoyed Bowling, reading and golf. Joseph met the love of his life, Linda Lee Green. They were married on November 24, 1967, in Beaver Dam, Kentucky. Life led them to Indianapol­is, where their son, Joseph B., was born. Joseph worked for the United States Postal Service from 1974 until 2007, in Indianapol­is, IN. After retirement, he moved to Memphis, Tennessee, then to the Washington, D.C. area, finally settling in the Knoxville, Tennessee area. In 2011, he was blessed with a grandson. His final years were spent loving and helping care for his grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Juanita Scoggins; three sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda L. Scoggins; son, Joseph B. Scoggins; grandson, Jackson Joseph Scoggins; sister Jeanie Scoggins; and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 5301 Fountain Road, Knoxville, Tennessee 37918. The family requests that in lieu of flowers please make donations to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital in Knoxville. Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the Scoggins family.
