KNOXVILLE - Major Chandler was called home by the Heavenly Father, Friday, August 18, 2023. He was born, March 24, 1944, to the late Reverend James and Evelyn Chandler in Knoxville, Tennessee. He loved to play the piano and played for several churches in Knoxville and the surroundin­g areas. Major relocated to Los Angeles, California, in the mid 70’s. He was hired at Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroad, where he worked for 26 years before retiring.

Even though he worked for the railroad, he continued with his passion of playing the piano or organ for various churches and events. Not only was Major a musician, but he was a Minister too. He was the associate pastor of three churches and had been the pastor of two in Los Angeles and one in San Diego.

He was preceded in death by parents, Reverend James and Evelyn Chandler; brothers, Reverend James Chandler Jr, and Mark Chandler. He leaves to cherish his memories, children: Titonia Sawyer, George Chandler, Knoxville, TN; Deona Bond, Charlotte, NC; Robbie (Angie) Stuart, Kingsport, TN; Michael (Binta) McClendon, Knoxville, TN; Reggie (Angie) Hogan; Shelanda Clay, Gary, IN; Darren Tillett, Kamil Chandler, Los Angeles, CA; children he raised Kimura (Demetrius) Washington, Long Beach, CA; and Hughey A. (Beyonka) Ray, La Palma, CA; sister, Hermetha Thompson, Las Vegas, NV; several grandchild­ren, great grandchild­ren; special friends, Mother Doree Nunley and family, Los Angeles, CA; Rob Bennett and family Knoxville, TN; Rev. Dr. George E. Kent and family Los Angeles, CA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
