-

KNOXVILLE - Mark Steven McMahan was born to Pete W. and Ruby Goin Summers McMahan on October 19, 1954, in Knoxville TN. He died unexpectedly August 16, 2023. He was a Christian and a member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church. He graduated from Powell High School and years later attended and graduated from The University of Tennessee. He worked in Tennessee, Georgia and Texas mostly in retail management. Mac, as he liked being called, loved God and country, his family and friends, all animals especially his two cats Sammy and Molly, and watching and participating in sports. He loved golf, at which he was quite good, and playing softball, giving it all he had with his good friend, Dan Foster, until he couldn’t golf nor play ball any longer. His favorite times were golf trips and watching Powell High football with Dan. They were there when Powell won the State Championship in 2021. “Steve is the definition of a true friend” said by one who would know.

He struggled for many years with Spinal Stenosis and disabling pain. Disappointments would come and go, but he faced them, fought bravely and complained very little. Preceded in death by parents, two brothers: Bill Summers and Gary McMahan, brother-inlaw: Sam M Murphy Jr, sister-in-law: Barbara Summers Sweat, and nephews: Sam M Murphy III and Wally Lowery.

Survived by sister: Peggy S Murphy, nieces and nephews: Mick and Tairrie B Murphy, Jay and Barbara Summers, Cindy and Dan Border, Rex and Michelle Summers, Todd and Amy Summers. We love him and we miss him. May he rest in well-deserved peace.

In lieu of flowers, you can donate to Young-Williams Animal Rescue of East Tennessee if you wish. There will be a private graveside at Lynnhurst Cemetery. Online condolences for the family may be expressed at www.rosefuneraltn.com.
