TEN MILE - Sammie Kaye Smith Swanks, age 78 of Ten Mile, Tenn. passed away Friday, December 8, 2023 in Erlanger East Hospital in Chattanoog­a, Tenn., She was a native of McMinn County, resident most of her life of Ten Mile, Tenn., a Daughter of the late Henderson Palmer and Anna Heiskell Smith and preceded in death by Grandson: Alex Bales. She was a member of Ten Mile United Methodist Church. She taught Art and English in Knox County and Meigs County. Survivors: Two Sons and daughters-in-law: Jonathan Swanks of Ten Mile, Tenn., Kevin (Amy) Swanks of Ten Mile, Tenn., former daughter-inlaw: Tabitha Swanks, Five Grandchild­ren: Lillian Swanks, Lorelei Swanks, Ashley Mattox Veronica Mattox Madelyn Vankirk Three Great Grandchild­ren: June, Juliann, Delilah. Several nieces and nephews. Beloved Pet: Jeffrey Former Husband: Jerry Swanks of Ten Mile, Tenn.

Funeral services will be 6:00 P.M. Tuesday in the Chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Rev. Hugh Bryant officiatin­g. Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday in Edgmon Cemetery with Rev. Fred Jones officiatin­g. The family will receive friends from 4-6 Tuesday in the funeral home. Active pallbearer­s will be Kevin Swanks, Jerry Swanks, Jonathan Swanks, Jason Kirk, Jason Voyles, and Shaun Smith.
