KNOXVILLE - Mary Ellen DeAngelo, affectiona­tely known as “Marty,” passed away on January 17,

2024, at the age of 87. Originally from Savannah, Oklahoma, Marty had called Knoxville home for many years. Marty was preceded in death by her parents, William “Buster” and Pauline Weathers, and her sister Venus Griffith. She is survived by her loving husband, Primo DeAngelo, and their children: sons Frank and wife Stacey, Mike and wife Keena DeAngelo, and daughter Maria DeAngelo. Marty also leaves behind her sisters Ethel Moore and Edith Williams, her faithful companion, Cisco, and a host of extended family and friends. She will be fondly remembered by her grandchild­ren Chris, Matthew, Olivia, Allie, Dylan, Shawn, and Jordan. Marty’s legacy extends to her great-grandchild­ren Gemma, Nola, Kambree, Sunny, and Malcolm. Marty’s kind, funny, mischievou­s, patient, and strong personalit­y left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She had a child-like quality of being sweet and innocent, and everything she did in life was with joy. Marty was the proud owner of Marty’s Antiques, where her passion for yard sales, estate sales, buying, and selling shone brightly. She took pride in every item, cleaning, fixing, painting, and placing them perfectly throughout her shop. A wonderful wife and devoted mother, Marty was proud of her children and cherished her home. She had a green thumb, finding joy in gardening and working in her flower beds. Marty never met a stranger and was beloved by all who crossed her path. Special Acknowledg­ements to the caregivers at home, Memory Care, and Palliative Care at UT Medical Center for their compassion­ate support. A memorial service to celebrate Marty’s life will be held at Rose Funeral & Cremation-Broadway on Tuesday, January 23, from 5 – 7:00 pm, with a rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will take place at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 1041 N. Central Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37917, on Wednesday, January 24, at 11:30 am. The gravesite service will follow at Greenwood Cemetery at 1:00 pm. Pallbearer­s will be Frank DeAngelo, Mike DeAngelo, Chris DeAngelo, Matthew DeAngelo, Dylan DeAngelo, and Shawn DeAngelo. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Ghost Catholic Church, where she was a long-time member, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, reflecting her love for little children.
