- Nancy Josephine (Major) Penery, born December 4, 1929, age 94, left this earthly world to go to her heavenly home on February 14, 2024. She has gone to be with the ones who have gone before her. She lived in the Ridgedale community from 1946-1971, then moved to the Powell community where she has lived for 50 years. She was a member of North Knoxville Church of God and served as the Secretary and Treasurer for many years. Nancy loved cooking for others. She also enjoyed gardening with her father for many years. During her life, she was a caregiver for her mother-in-law, mother, father, and brother-in-law. She was a hardworkin­g woman and was always willing to help others.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Joe Arthur Major, Sr. and Anna Katherine (Fraizer) Major; brother, Joe Arthur Major, Jr.; and husband of 63 years, Emory H. (Bo) Penery, Jr. Survived by sisters, Barbara Pilkay Atkins and Peggy Boling; children, Paul Penery, Teresa Anderson & son-in-law, Victor Anderson; five grandchild­ren, SMSgt Joshua Penery (Cynthia), Maisie Anderson Frost (Brian), Mollie Anderson Coker (Nathan), Benjamin Penery (Brooke), and Johanna Penery Miller (Dustin); nine great-grandchild­ren, Jaxson Penery, Jayden Penery, Brayden Penery, Corbin Coker, Paityn Penery, Emory (Millie) Frost, Josiah Penery, Levi Miller, and Presley Penery.

A special thank you to UT Hospice for their support during this time. The family will receive friends Monday, February 19, 2024, from 4:00pm6:00pm with the service to follow at 6:00pm at Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel with Reverend Tony Chapman officiatin­g. Family and friends will meet at Greenwood Cemetery 11:00am on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, for Interment.
