Thomas Sullivan
- Thomas A. Sullivan, Jr., MD Dr. Thomas Sullivan, age 84, of Knoxville, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2024, at UT Medical Center following a massive stroke. Tom was a graduate of Duke University and Duke University School of Medicine. He joined the Knoxville Pulmonary Group in 1973 following his training at George Washington University Hospital, the University of North Carolina and Duke. He served two years in the Air Force during the Vietnam era and had his boards in Internal, Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine. Tom served on the Board of the Tennessee Lung Association and the Board of Governors of the American College of Chest Physicians, along with serving a term as Chief of Staff at UT Medical Center. Tom was a long-standing member of Second Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and an Elder. During his 40 years of private practice, Tom truly appreciated the privilege of combining private practice with the training of other physicians and health care providers in East Tennessee. In addition to medicine, Tom enjoyed golf, tennis, bridge, travel, his ROMEO group and most especially, spending time at the lake with family and friends. Tom is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret Hagaman Sullivan; daughter Cynthia Davies (Glenn); sister Deborah Bottomley (Dick); sonin-law Paul Conroy; brothers-in-law Len Hagaman (Ruth) and Ted Ellis; grandchildren Joseph, Thomas and Margaret Conroy and Genevieve and Alexander Davies. Tom was predeceased by his daughter Sandra Conroy, sister-in-law Sarah Ellis and his parents Thomas and Ruth Sullivan. The Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, March 16th at Second Presbyterian Church.
