- Margaret McMillan White “Peggy” died on March 4, 2024. She was born on January 24, 1934 to the late Edward John and Mamie Henegar McMillan in Knoxville, Tennessee. She attended Staub School and Tyson Junior High School in Knoxville. She was a graduate of the Madeira School in Fairfax County, Virginia and of Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia.

She worked for the Richs’ Department Store in Knoxville and later at “Ladies Home Journal” Magazine in New York City. She traveled extensivel­y in

Europe and other areas of the world before and after her marriages. She was married to William T. Moore, Jr. and lived in Knoxville. Later she married William A. White, Jr. of Whitesburg, Tennessee. They lived in Chattanoog­a, Tennessee and were married for 61 years. After his retirement as the administra­tor of Moccasin Bend Psychiatri­c Hospital in Chattanoog­a they shared time between Chattanoog­a and their home in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. For the last three years, Peggy and Bill resided in Franklin, Tennessee to be closer to family.

In Chattanoog­a Peggy was an active member of Rivermont Presbyteri­an Church. She enjoyed membership in The Chattanoog­a Junior League; The Junior League Garden Club; The Riverview Garden Club; The Riverview Book Club; The Chattanoog­a Golf & Country Club; The Santa Rosa Beach Club and the Walden Club. She served on the Board of the Bright School and of The National Kidney Foundation of Chattanoog­a. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Mary McMillan Moore; her sister and brother-in-law, Helen McMillan Rodgers & Earnest B. Rodgers “Bud”; her sister and brother-in-law, Nancy McMillan Rodgers and Cowan Rodgers, Jr.; her brother-in-law, Donald G. White; her mother and father-in-law, Maxine and Jack White.

She is survived by her husband William A. White, Jr.; son, William A. White, III of Hendersonv­ille, Tennessee; son, Edward McMillan White and wife Kara of Burke, Virginia; daughter, Margaret Anne Moore “Margo” of Murfreesbo­ro, Tennessee; grandsons, William Nolan White and wife Stephanie of Franklin, Tennessee, Andrew Evans White and wife Lauren of Franklin, Tennessee, James Morgan White and wife Karla of Atlanta, Georgia, Benjamin McMillan White and Lucas Edward White of Burke, Virginia; great-grandsons, Holden Ellis White, Brooks Benton White, Walker James White and River Elliott White; great-granddaugh­ter, Madelyn McMillan White; nieces and nephews dear to her include, Roddy Rodgers (Julie), Katherine R. Mayfield, Briscoe Rodgers (Anne), Helen R. Boehm “Tena” and Lea R. Valentine; several dear great nephews and nieces; cousins, Edward Henegar (Judy), Henry Henegar (Jane), Jane H. Loudermilk (Larry), Anne F. Curtis and John Foster (Margo); sister-in-law, Ruth White; nephews and nieces, Donald G. White, Jr. (Eileen), Mark David White (Maria), Denise White Cooper (Mike) and Robin White Kinser (Dave).

A private funeral service will be held at Rose Funeral & Cremation – Mann 6200 Kingston Pike Knoxville, TN 37919 with an interment at Highland Memorial Cemetery.
