- Dolores Elizabeth Swiney, age 77 of Knoxville, TN was born June 4th,1946 and passed away suddenly but peacefully in the comfort of her home on March 5th, 2024. She was the youngest daughter of 11 siblings. Dolores was steadfast in her faith and a longtime member of Head of Barren Missionary Baptist Church of New Tazewell. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to serving others, beginning her career in nursing as an LPN and later advancing to become a Registered Nurse after graduating from Walters State Community College in 1987. She passionate­ly cared for patients, specializi­ng in renal transplant nursing until her retirement from the University of Tennessee Medical Center. She is preceded in death by husband Elmer “EJ” Swiney. Parents Callie Virgil Simmons and Geneva Nora Watson Simmons. Brothers: Lennis Simmons; William “Wig” Simmons; C.V. Simmons; David Simmons; Robert Simmons. Sisters: Mourine Keck; Majorie Brown; Virginia Wyatt; Alice Johnson. Dolores is survived by her sister Alma Harmon; two sons: Joey Swiney (Ginger) of Knoxville, TN and Jason Swiney (Jen) of Aurora, CO. Three cherished grandchild­ren: Hayley Parmly (James), Abbey Swiney, and Jase Swiney, and one adored great grandchild, Harrison Parmly, who all brought immense joy to her life. She also leaves behind numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and was considered a second mom to many. The family will be receiving friends prior to services at Mynatt Funeral Home, 4131 E. Emory Rd. Knoxville, TN 37938, from 10am-11:30am on Monday, the 11th of March. Procession to Greenwood Cemetery will follow the service. Dr. Carl Simmons officiatin­g.
