- Mary Florence Moore Bates, age 75, of Knoxville, TN, went to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ at Fort Sanders Hospital, Saturday, March 23, 2024. Mary was born, September, 15, 1948 in Bessemen, Alabama to the late Phoebe Royal Moore Campbell and the late, Willie James Moore. She received her formal education in the Knoxville School System having attended Maynard Elementary, Beardsley Jr., High School, and West

School, where she graduated in 1966; she was a graduate of Knoxville Business College.

Mary retired from Y-12 Nuclear Plant; she also was a employed at Knoxville College, the University of Tennessee and Tennessee Valley Authority. She was an active and faithful member of the Payne Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir, Sunday School and Missionary Society.

While living in Lawrence, Georgia, Mary faithfully worshiped and became a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Preceded in death by parents; loving daughters, Taunisha Joycine Bates, Traci Lynn Bates Taylor and Baby Tiffani Bates; former husband, Rev. Samuel Bates; brother, Murrill Sanders III, and other relatives.

She leaves fond memories to loving and devoted family, loving granddaugh­ter/adopted daughter and caretaker, Jada Ne’Chole Taylor; loving grand daughter, Lehaidra Danielle, Taylor; three great grandchild­ren, who were the apples of her eye; Messiah, MyLeah, and MyAsia; nephews, and nieces, to include, Najia Sanders, Kim Hunter; loving cousins to include, Joyce Peebles Harris, Charles Peebles; sisters-in-law, Carrie Gist, Ernestine (Victor Sr.) Harris, Imogene Nance, Helena McNabb; brothers-in-law, Jay (Sheryldine) Bates, Terence Bates; stepchildr­en to include, Adrins Beaty; loving extended family, Katherine (Ernest Sr.) McDuffy and children; a host of special friends and families to include, Sheila Quick, Susan Spencer, Paulette Jefferson, Cassie Heyward, Minister Pam Booker, Beal V. Bourne; Payne Avenue Baptist Church Family to include, Croom, Johnson, Manning, Harris, Hamlett and Tipton Families.

Family will receive friends, 12:00 noon-1:00 p.m., Monday, April 1, 2024 at Payne Avenue Baptist Church; celebratio­n of Life, 1:00 p.m., Minister Pam Booker, Eulogist.
