Bennie “Marquetta” Hurst

- Bennie “Marquetta” Loposser Hurst, 87, of Seymour, and formerly of Sevierville, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church of Seymour. Marquetta was a graduate of Harrison Chilhowee Baptist Academy and Knoxville Business College. She was employed by Wagner Electric and Miller’s Department Store in downtown Knoxville. Marquetta loved spending time with her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer “Gerald” Hurst; her parents, Benjamin and Gertie Loposser; parents-in-law, Jean and Elmer Hurst; sisters, Wilda Gibson (Les), Lytha Reeves (Raymond), Eula Flynn (Kenneth), Shirley Haggard (Fred); brothers-in-law, Dallas McCroskey and Don Hodges, and Edward “Ed” Hurst; nephew, Dean Gibson; great-niece, Kristy Clark; great-nephew, Alex Hurst. Marquetta is survived by her sister, Sylvia Jean McCroskey, nieces and nephews, Greg Haggard (Kim), Kellye Lethco (Jim), Lary (Theresa) and Gary (Jackie) McCroskey, Dan Gibson, Brenda Gibson, Tammie Andrews (Steve), Martin, Kevin, Daniel, Eric, Brandon, and Lance Hurst, Bridgette Caldwell, Stephanie Ownby, Maria Hurst, Melanie “Rani” Clark, and Carrie Clark; sisters-inlaw, Myra Hodges, Peggy Clark (Rex), Jeannie Hurst; and a host of extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5 PM to 6 PM Thursday, April 18th at Atchley Funeral Home, Seymour with the Funeral Service to follow at 6 PM at Atchley’s Seymour Chapel, 122 Peacock Ct., Seymour, TN 37865 with Rev. Logan Haggard officiating. The Graveside Service will be held at 11 AM Friday, April 19 in Chilhowee Cemetery, 436 Boyds Creek Highway Seymour, TN 37865 with Rev. Butch Stovall officiating.
