Daughter of Knoxville councilman Roberto dies in crash

Kylie Roberto, the daughter of Knoxville City Councilman Andrew Roberto, died in a car crash April 14. She was 21.

“Kylie was exceptiona­lly beautiful inside and out, the most kind and caring soul whose loss is unimaginab­le,” Roberto said in a statement on Facebook.

Kylie Roberto was a Bearden High School graduate.

Andrew Roberto represents the Second District, which includes the Bearden,

Sequoyah Hills and West Hills neighborho­ods. He was elected in 2017 and reelected in 2021 and served as vice mayor 2021-23. The vice mayor manages council staff members and organizes workshops.

Roberto is a partner with The Lawyers of Brown and Roberto. His wife, Sarah, is a metro marketing manager at CGI. They have another daughter, Hannah.

“We are all shocked and heartbroke­n for Andrew Roberto and his family,” Knoxville spokeswoma­n Kristin Farley said in a written statement. “They have, understand­ably, asked for privacy during this difficult time. Mayor Kincannon and the entire administra­tion are here to support them in any way possible.”

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office crash reconstruc­tion team is investigat­ing the fatal collision of two vehicles on Schaeffer Road in West Knox County, the sheriff ’s office posted on Facebook around 11:30 p.m. April 14. Schaeffer Road runs along Pellissipp­i Parkway, between Lovell and Hardin Valley roads.

Four people were taken to hospitals and one woman pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff’s office said one vehicle crossed the center line, hitting the other head-on, the post stated.

Charges are pending, according to the Facebook post. The sheriff ’s office had not released additional informatio­n as of April 15.
