Susan Ann (Melko) Hicks

Susan Ann (Melko) Hicks of Knoxville, TN, passed away peacefully April 26, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. She was a beloved wife, cherished mother, dear friend to many who knew her, and a sister in Christ whose kindness and upbeat, faithful personality radiated throughout her family, church, friends, colleagues, and countless number of people she encountered. Susan was a Registered Nurse for 40+ years, Emergency Services Nursing Supervisor at Brookwood Baptist Medical Center, Birmingham, AL, and an Adjunct Instructor for the Tennessee College of

Applied Technology – Knoxville, TN. She was a multi-discipline medical professional who coordinated many health care and public speaking events, who obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Master of Business Administration from Samford University. As a breast cancer survivor who lived with Parkinson’s, she lived life to the fullest! This included obtaining her Private Pilot License, practicing the Art of Jiu-Jitsu, studying law at the Birmingham School of Law, enjoying travel and meeting of new people as the wife of Theodore Roosevelt alongside her reenactor husband, and being a “Grammy” for her grandchildren. Susan was a rare, precious, and generous blessing to all who knew her. It was an adventure to everyone who had the opportunity to be a part of her journey! She will be missed, but celebrated for the life she lived without fear and with steadfast faith.

Susan is survived by her husband, Case Hicks; her two sons and their wives, John and Danielle Atkinson of Texas and Austin and Stephanie Atkinson of Colorado; grandchildren Alissa, Alec, Elena, Sophia, and Ryan; and brotherin-law Steve Prince of Maine. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mary Elizabeth (Masler) Melko; and sister Mary Ann Prince. Please join us in celebrating her life on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at the West End Church of Christ, Knoxville, Tennessee. Visitation begins at 1 pm with a service at 2 pm.
