-

John (Johnny) Henry Schaad, III, age 72, passed away at home on May 14, 2024. Born on July 2, 1951, in Knoxville, TN, he was the eldest of eight children of Ann Sudduth Schaad and John Henry Schaad, Jr. He graduated from Knoxville Catholic High School and attended Middle Tennessee State University and The University of Tennessee.

From the time he could hold a broom until his retirement in 2011, Johnny built a career at Schaad Lumber Company with the invaluable assistance of Tracy Claiborne. He enjoyed helping people, and his kindness took many forms, including hosting classic car show fundraisers, delivering food to elementary students in need, sponsoring Eagle Scout projects, and supporting numerous other charities.

He spent summers as a boy with his maternal grandparents, affectionately known as Mammy and John “Pappy” Sudduth. Those experiences developed his fondness for golfing, fishing, and the beach and instilled in him a generous spirit. Johnny was a humble man who enjoyed a variety of hobbies. He was a competitive marksman, an avid hunter, and a licensed multi-engine pilot who treasured the friendships he made along the way. Like his parents, he had a love of dogs and was content sitting in his chair with his dog beside him. He is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Barbara (Bobbi) Schaad; their two children, John (Jay) Henry Schaad, IV and Joy Schaad Davis (Mark Davis); granddaughter Kaylee and grandson Adam. He leaves behind his seven siblings and a multitude of nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will take place at Rose Funeral & Cremation – Mann on Monday, May 27, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.

A memorial service will be held at Sacred Heart Cathedral on Tuesday, May 28, at 2:00pm. Interment will take place at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery following the memorial service. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.rosefuneraltn.com.
