Reds’ Fraley exits game after being hit by pitch

-

Cincinnati Reds right fielder Jake Fraley left Tuesday’s game against the San Diego Padres after being hit on the right hand by a Joe Musgrove pitch in the bottom of the first.

Fraley remained in the game after being tended to by Reds trainer Sean McQueeney. But Fraley was removed from the game prior to the top of the second.

After Cincinnati manager David Bell informed home plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt that Stuart Fairchild would come in and play center and Will Benson would move over to right, Bell made his way back to the Reds’ dugout and smashed a chair against the bat rack.

Cubs remove struggling Hendricks from starting rotation

The Chicago Cubs have seen enough from their former ace Kyle Hendricks and have taken him out of the starting rotation, according to manager Craig Counsell.

Hendricks has seven starts this season, an 0-4 record and an ERA of 10.57.

Counsell told reporters Tuesday that he wasn’t sure whether the move would be permanent.

“Our pitching is precarious enough right now that we can’t (commit) to anything long-term,” Counsell said. “We are going day-by-day with a lot of this right now, and I think we should.

“The goal still is to get Kyle on track and get him back in the rotation. That’s absolutely what I’d like to do, yeah.”
